Linus ist schon über drei Wochen alt und über vier Kilo schwer. Hier ist eine alphabetische Liste der Dinge, die in seinem und unserem Leben nun total präsent sind¹:

11. Kaffee, für die Eltern, viel davon
12. Liebe, für den Sohn und die Eltern, viel davon
13. Mimik, hat Linus, sehr zur Erheiterung aller Umstehenden

• janus - This is a basic distribution of vim plugins and tools intended to be run on top of the latest MacVIM snapshot.
• reptyr - is a utility for taking an existing running program and attaching it to a new terminal. Started a long-running process over ssh, but have to leave and don't want to interrupt it? Just start a screen, use reptyr to grab it, and then kill the ssh session and head on home.
• txt2re - headache relief for programmers :: regular expression generator
• atMonitor - is the most advanced monitoring tool for Mac OS X that displays system activity in real-time
• urlscan - is a small program that is designed to integrate with the "mutt" mailreader to allow you to easily launch a Web browser for URLs contained in email messages.
• Screens - Very good looking universal VNC Client for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
• Coloration - is editor/IDE color scheme converter. Right now it allows you to convert your favourite Textmate color scheme (in XML plist format) to Vim, JEdit and KDevelop/Kate/Kwrite color scheme.

Seit iOS 4.2 verfügen das iPad sowie die iPhones in den Versionen 4 & 3GS über AirPrint¹. Das ist Apple Speak für “Drucken über WLAN aber nur auf eine Handvoll HP-Drucker.”

Glücklicherweise haben einige findige Leute bereits eine Möglichkeit gefunden, diese kaum nachvollziehbare Beschränkung² aufzuheben. Und es ist wirklich sehr einfach:

1. Man lege eine Datei namens airprint.types in dem Verzeichnis /usr/share/cups/mime an.
2. Diese befülle man mit einer einzigen Zeile: image/urf urf (0,UNIRAST<00>)
3. Den Mac neu starten[^fn2].
4. Alle konfigurierten Drucker löschen, neu einrichten und im Netzwerk freigeben.
5. Schon Fertig!

Jetzt kann man im lokalen Netz etwa Mails, Fotos oder PDFs ausdrucken.

Das selbe ist auch mit Druckern machbar, die unter Linux mit CUPS betrieben werden. Die Einrichtung ist eine Ecke komplizierter, aber mit Hilfe des Python-Scripts airprint-generate sind die erforderlichen Config-Dateien schnell erstellt.

Bei mir stellte sich nach dem ersten erfolgreichen Ausdruck vom iPhone aus aber doch Ernüchterung ein. Wozu soll das eigentlich gut sein? Ich habe nicht das Gefühl, als würde AirPrint meinen sehr überschaubaren Jahresoutput an Druckerzeugnissen signifikant steigern können…

Und auch sonst ist es eigentlich immer so, dass ich die zu druckenden Dateien auf dem MacBook erstelle. Dann kann ich auch gleich von dort aus den Drucker anschmeissen. Etwas anders stellt sich die Situation vermutlich da, wenn man über ein iPad verfügt und die darauf laufenden Apps zur Erstellung von Drucksachen benutzt.

So bleibt es erst mal eine interessante Lösung mit hohem Staunfaktor beim ersten Einsatz.

1. do it the same, over and over and over again
2. Backups are sacred! If you do not know if your backups are current, then test them by restoring the data and comparing.
3. Do not make many, tiny partitions, make a smaller number of larger partitions, instead.
4. Why change the system default when you don’t have to?
5. Think now so you don’t have to later (at 4am).
6. If you have to do it more than once, automate it. If you cannot automate it, document it.

Helge Schneiders Telefonmann in einer brennenden Performance mit Stefan Raab als Höhepunkt der 1Live-Krone 2010. Total super und das Video kann man sich sogar noch im Web anschauen.

Über den im Bild markierten Link, gibt es auch eine recht hübsche, große Version.

Ich fand den Song sogar so toll, ich wollte mir den gerne als MP3 zulegen, aber zu kaufen gibt es den, AFAIK, leider nirgends.

Also: Selbst ist der Mann, Video runterladen, Ton extrahieren, als MP3 speichern, fertig. Zumindest war das mein Plan.

Leider, leider, klappte das mit der Goto-Lösung für solche Fälle, dem 1,zu meinem Erstaunen überhaupt nicht. Normalerweise lädt diese Browser-Erweiterung völlig problemlos alles runter was nach Video ausschaut und bietet ausserdem noch einige Konvertierungsmöglichkeiten. Aber damit war hier einfach nichts zu holen.

Es war an der Zeit, andere Kaliber aufzufahren. Es war nun an dem Kommandozeilentool RTMPDump, das Video in einem genehmen Format auf die lokale Platte zu bannen.

Nach dem Klick geht es etwas geekig zur Sache. Wer sich ungern mit Versionskontrollsystemen, Makefiles und einer Shell beschäftigt, klicke einfach nicht auf weiter…
