Hier ist nun der zweite Post aus der angekündigten Storage-Serie.

Es geht um die Bücher, die sich im alten Arbeitszimmer auf zwei große und vier kleine Bücherregale¹ verteilt haben. Ein selbstredend unhaltbarer Zustand, vor allem wenn der Raum schon ab Februar als Kinderzimmer benötigt wird.

Daher wurden alle Bücher aus ihren alten, angestammten Regalen geräumt, entstaubt und neu sortiert. Nebenbei konnte auch ihre Indizierung in Delicious Library 2 überprüft werden. Ich hatte wider Erwarten in den vergangenen drei Jahren kein einziges Buch vergessen. Insgesamt sind es 365 und diese Export-Seite des Bestandes ist auch schon nicht mehr sonderlich aktuell…

Wenn diese Bücher, zusammen mit ein bisschen anderem Kram, im Zimmer verteilt werden, erhält man ungefähr 5 Quadratmeter bedeckten Boden der ungefähr so ausschaut:

Wenn man diese Bücher ohne den anderen Kram in drei formschönen Billy-Regalen verstaut und eben diese im Flur aufbaut, erhält man ein hübsches Entrée. Besonders toll finde ich die Glastüren und die Möglichkeit, die Regalböden schräg einlegen zu können.

Aus sechs unterschiedlichen und überfüllten Regalen im alten Arbeitszimmer, sind nun also drei zusammenhängende im Flur geworden. Ausserdem sind noch fast zwei Meter Regal frei für Neuanschaffungen².

Damit ist ein weiterer Schritt in Richtung Kinderzimmer und Storage-Nutzung umgesetzt und dokumentiert.

Womit, um Himmels Willen, fängt man als Geek also an?

Natürlich mit diesem ganzen Computerkram der in der Gegend rumsteht, blinkt, summt und auch sonst Sehr Wichtige Dinge® veranstaltet. Das blöde ist eben, dass dieses Blinken, Summen und Sehr Wichtige Dinge® tun, derzeit hauptsächlich in dem zukünftigen Kinderzimmer statt findet.

Storage ist knapp.

Dabei ist es völlig nebensächlich, ob wir über virtuellen Storage auf Festplatten und anderen elektronischen Medien sprechen, oder über den tatsächlichen, physischen Raum in dem wir unsere ganzen Plörren verstauen können, reden.

Es gibt, aus aktuellem Anlass und meiner begrenzten Erfahrung nach, kaum eine bessere Art, tiefe Einsicht in die persönlichen Storage-Probleme beider Coleur zu erhalten, als ein Arbeitszimmer in ein Kinderzimmer zu verwandeln.

Denn eben in diesem Raum befindet sich per definitionem der mitunter größte Teil realer wie virtueller Plörren. Diese verteilen sich im Groben wie folgt:

• Bücher: Viele Bücher. Aus Papier. Zweireihig und gestapelt in einem überquellenden Regal¹.
• Papierkram: Behörden-Korrespondenz, Rechnungen & Quittungen, Kontoauszüge, Gehaltsabrechnungen und so weiter. Das Zeug liegt, abgeheftet in thematisch sortierten Ordnern, in einem Schrank.
• Lose Hardware: Drucker, Scanner, Kameras nebst Stativ, Blitz und Objektiven, Vermutlich so 100 CDs und DVDs, ungefähr 3 Kilo diverse Kabel und Adapter. Das alles verteilt sich auf einen Schrank und zwei Schubladen.
• Fotos: Auf Papier. Relativ unsortiert in Alben und lose. Füllen eine Schublade.
• Der Cube: Zentraler Server für Backup, alles Mögliche™ und spezielle Spezialaufgaben™ . Gebietet über zwei externe MyBook-Festplatten mit einer Gesamtkapazität² von 1,5 TB. Wohnt auf einer kleinen Kommode neben meinem Schreibtisch.
• Dennis Schreibtisch³: Im wesentlichen ist das eine MacBook Docking Station bestehend aus einem 100 MBit Netzwerk-Anschluss, einem antiken 17″ Display, Maus, Tastatur, einem mStand und den Soundsticks nebst Subwoofer.
• Kathis Schreibtisch: Ich bin mir gar nicht völlig im Klaren darüber, was die Liebste so alles in und auf ihrem Schreibtisch lagert, aber es ist schon eine beachtliche Menge.
• Der ganze Rest: Das rangiert zwischen Tischtennisschlägern, Geschenkpapier, Stauder-Deckel-Sammlung, Druckerpapier, Briefumschlägen und was eben noch so da ist…

Das alles muss da raus, um Platz zu schaffen für kinderzimmertypische Möbel wie Bett, Schrank, Wickelkommode and what have you. Dazu Spielzeug, andere Bücher aus Papier, Windeln, Puder, Cremes und ganz sicherlich noch mehr Zeugs, von dem ich bisher noch nicht mal ahne, dass es in Zukunft wichtig werden wird.

Ja. Und da ich nun mal so bin wie ich bin, werde ich die Fortschritte die Kathi und ich in der Sache erzielen, hier aufschreiben. Vermutlich wird die Migration sowohl zeitlich als auch thematisch wie folgt aufgeteilt:

• Bücher – Wie sie in den Flur umziehen
• Papierkram – Zettelwirtschaft zu PDF-Management
• Computer – Home Network Redesign
• Zeugs – Das Problem mit dem ganzen Rest
• Finale – Ein Kinderzimmer herstellen
