Während der hier stattfindenden¹ Sortier- und Umbau-Arbeiten, lag das Augenmerk sehr darauf, unnötige Sachen nicht länger aufzuheben. Im Wohnzimmer zählten dazu beispielsweise so unterschiedliche Dinge wie die stattliche Teelichthalter-Sammlung der besten Ehefrau der Welt, der AV-Receiver sowie das passende 5.1-Boxensystem.

Die Teelichthalter lagen einfach unbenutzt in einer Schublade herum² und wurden ohne viel Federlesen entsorgt. Kerzenständer sind einfach viel schöner und hier bei uns auch öfter in Benutzung.

Das 5.1-System wurde von uns erstaunlicherweise eher selten dazu genutzt, Filme mit Surround Sound anzusehen. Das wäre zwar durchaus möglich gewesen, da der Mac mini per optischem Toslink mit dem Receiver verbunden war, aber die meiste Zeit nutzten wir den Receiver als schlichtes iTunes-Audio-Output-Device und, man höre und staune, zum Radio zu hören.

Da das Arbeitszimmer ja in ein Kinderzimmer verwandelt wurde, waren die dort eingesetzten Soundsticks gerade übrig und wurden als Audio-Output an den Mac mini im Wohnzimmer angeschlossen. So ein 2.1 System reicht für unsere Belange in Sachen Film- und Musik-Audio völlig aus und ist, gerade bei Musik, dem alten Receiver sogar gefühlt überlegen.

Damit verblieb nur noch das Radio als offenes Problem. Als hübsche und schlanke Lösung hatte ich zunächst das Tivoli Model One Radio im Auge. Ob der in wenigen Jahren drohenden Abschaltung des analogen Rundfunks waren mir die 200 € aber doch ein wenig zu teuer…

Die nächste Idee drehte sich dann darum, den Radio Shark zu kaufen und an den Mini anzuschliessen. Allerdings hat man auch hier das Problem mit der Abschaltung des analogen Rundfunks und, mal ehrlich, so schön ist diese Plastikflosse nun auch wieder nicht³…

Also warum eigentlich Geld ausgeben, schon wieder Kram in die Wohnung schleppen und auf obsolete Technik setzen, wenn man doch eh schon einen Computer hat, der Radio über das Internet empfangen kann?

In iTunes sind bereits ab Werk hunderte Radiostationen aus aller Welt hinterlegt. Mehr als man jemals durchhören könnte. Für ein eher regionales Radioprogramm bietet beispielsweise der WDR seine Sender als Streams im WMA- und MP3-Format⁴ auf einer Streaming-Übersichtsseite an. Die Links zu den Streams lassen sich als m3u-Dateien herunterladen und zu iTunes hinzufügen. Schon fertig. Ab sofort kann iTunes die verlinkte Radiostation abspielen. Als Zuckerl sendet der WDR die RDS-Infos auch in den Streams mit und so kann iTunes beispielsweise Titel und Interpret des gerade gespielten Musikstücks anzeigen.

Fügt man die Streams in iTunes zusätzlich in eine Playlist ein, sind sie auch mit der Apple RemoteApp vom iPhone aus zu steuern. So können Kathi und ich nun sehr bequem und nach Belieben aus der iTunes-Musik-Bibliothek und sämtlichen in der Radio-Playlist hinterlegten Radio-Streams wählen. Die RDS-Infos kommen auch hier an, nur ein Coverart wird nicht angeboten und kann auch nicht über iTunes hinzugefügt werden…

Alles in allem ist das wirklich eine äusserst komfortable Lösung. Wie sich die Kombination iPhone und Mac mini sonst so als MediaCenter macht, werde ich bei Gelegenheit in einem eigenen Post beschreiben.

Damit ich das nicht ewig vergesse:

Um über die Shell eines Macs den Apple Remote Desktop¹ Zugriff für einen User dennis zu aktivieren, ist folgender Befehl² auf einer Zeile abzusetzen:

sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement /ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -activate -configure -access -on -users dennis -privs -all -restart -agent -menu

Das ergibt dann den folgenden Output:

Starting... Created preference to start ARD after reboot. Stopped ARD Helper. Stopped ARD Agent. Stopped ARD Database. Stopped VNC Server. dennis: Set user remote control privileges. dennis: Set user remote access. Started ARD Agent. Done.

Nun ist ausserdem dafür gesorgt, dass der ARD-Agent³ bereits beim Start des Systems aktiviert wird. Sollte man das ganze wieder deaktivieren wollen, ist folgendes zu veranlassen:

sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -deactivate -configure -access -off

Gerade wenn man so etwas per SSH absetzen kann, spart das unter Umständen, weite Wege…
