Meine pinboard.in-Links vom 25. Mai bis zum 6. Juni:
- Squeaky – is a web proxy, in the spirit of a2 or PHProxy
- Archive – This free plugin extends Apple Mail with the archive feature that you know and love from MobileMe and Gmail.
- lesspipe – is an input filter for the pager less as described in its man page. The script runs under a ksh compliant shell (ksh, bash, zsh) and allows to view files with binary content, compressed files, archives and files contained in archives.
- YOURLS – is a small set of PHP scripts that will allow you to run your own URL shortening service (a la TinyURL). You can make it private or public, you can pick custom keyword URLs, it comes with its own API. You will love it.
- MFCMAPI – uses Microsoft's published APIs to provide access to MAPI stores through a graphical user interface. Its purpose is to facilitate investigation of Exchange and Outlook issues and to provide developers with a canonical sample for MAPI development.
- Markdoc – is a lightweight Markdown-based wiki system. It's been designed to allow you to create and manage wikis as quickly and easily as possible.
- SL – (Steam Locomotive) runs across your terminal when you type "sl" as you meant to type "ls". It's just a joke command, and not usefull at all.
- mairix – is a program for indexing and searching email messages stored in maildir, MH or mbox folders.
- Guake – is a top-down terminal for Gnome (in the style of Yakuake for KDE, Tilda or the terminal used in Quake).
- Infinite Scroll – Automatically append the next page of posts (via AJAX) to your page when a user scrolls to the bottom.

Ich habe in den letzten Tagen mit einigen instant-thinking.de Besuchern, die ich auch persönlich kenne, über die Möglichkeit gesprochen Werbung auf meiner bescheidenen Seite zu schalten.
Das Thema ist ja durchaus heikel und führt in manchen Fällen auch zur Aufspaltung etablierter Communities. So geschehen bei WordPress Deutschland, die der 2.3er DE-Edition ein Linklift-PlugIn beilegten…
Diese Aktion gipfelt nun in einer alternativen deutschen WordPress-Seite unter dem Dach der wordpress.org Seite.
Aber das alles eher am Rande, hier geht es ja um mein eigenes kleines Blog, das sicherlich Welten von den oben genannten entfernt ist.
Wenn ich Werbung auf instant-thinking.de hinzufüge, denke ich auch eher weniger an flackernde und flimmernde Banner, sondern eher an Links in der Seitenleiste aus dem Google AdSense Programm und von Text Link Ads.
Vielleicht auch Amazon-Partner-Links und bezahlte (und als solche gekennzeichnete) Blog-Postings von Trigami…

Ich erwarte mir auch nicht wirklich große Gewinne, aber wenn ich meine (geringen) Hosting-Kosten raus kriegen würde, dann wäre das schon ein großer Erfolg für mich. Und ich betreibe instant-thinking.de ja eh, da ist es IMHO nicht verwerflich wenn ich mich nach dem Geld bücke das mir da am Rand des digitalen Highways auffällt…
Ausserdem kann man ja dank moderner Technik die Werbung auch einfach ausblenden, genannt seien da nur mal Ad Block Plus für den Firefox und PithHelmet für den Safari, für den IE gibt es sicher ähnliches…
Was würdet ihr davon halten? Sofortiger Rausschmiss aus dem RSS-Reader? Skepsis? Zustimmung? Die RealLife-User mit denen ich sprach äusserten sich überwiegend positiv, aber ich wollte meine Überlegungen auch noch mal on the web ausbreiten…
Ich gucke mir die oben genannten Werbe-Möglichkeiten auf jeden Fall mal genauer an, und dann werde ich weitersehen.

Chris hatte gefragt inwiefern sich so ein Server-Umzug auf die Besucherzahlen auswirkt.
Ich muss sagen dass ich sehr zufrieden bin. Mein Blog hatte eigentlich nie soo viele Besucher, aber wie es ausschaut sind die 100 Leute die hier früher täglich reinschauten jetzt auch wieder da. Das finde ich gut, ihr seid herzlich willkommen.
Man kann das Tal der DNS-Umstellung sehr gut erkennen und auch, dass in der Zeit vor dem Umzug, vermutlich wegen ständiger QuickLinks-Postings, immer weniger Besucher kamen.
Am wichtigsten für die schnelle Regeneration waren sicherlich die URL-Umleitungen von den alten Typo-Links auf die neuen WordPress-Links per mod_rewrite. So muss sich keine Suchmaschine eine neue URL merken, User müssen ihre Feeds nicht umstellen und instant-thinking.de erhält Besucher über die alten Suchmaschineneinträge.
Wer also einen Server-Umzug und/oder einen Wechsel des CMS vor sich hat, sollte auf jeden Fall an diese Umleitungen denken. Und wer von typo zu WordPress wechselt, kann hier meine Regeln (bei denen das mod_rewrite Cheat Sheet sehr geholfen hat) abschreiben:

Ich habe die ganzen alten Grafik-Dateien in den /wp-content/uploads/2007/09/ Ordner geworfen und Requests auf die alten Orte dahin umgeleitet, neuere Uploads werden von WordPress ja automatisch passend sortiert hochgeladen.
Etwas hässlich ist, dass der Atom-Feed auf den RSS-Feed umgeleitet wird, aber ich denke das werden aktuelle Feed-Reader schon verpacken…
