Ich hatte gerade die Gelegenheit, meine Finger zwei Stunden lang über die Oberfläche eines iPads gleiten zu lassen. Viel früher als ich erwartet hatte, aber ein guter Freund hat sich eines aus New York mitbringen lassen und ist dann irgendwie auf die verrückte Idee gekommen, dass mich das ja auch ein bisschen interessieren könnte…

Um es abzukürzen: Ja es ist wirklich, wirklich, wirklich toll. Ich will eins.

Der Bildschirm und der Touchscreen sind großartig. Ich hatte mir ein wenig Sorgen wegen der geringen Auflösung gemacht, aber es schaut wirklich toll aus. Trailer von Filmen aus dem iTunes-Store und HD-Youtube Videos waren ein Traum.

Die iPod-App wirkt eher wie ein iTunes, lässt bisher aber die Möglichkeit des Streamens vermissen. Der Sound ist für ein derart dünnes Gerät überraschend satt, aber nicht überragend.

Spezielle iPad-Apps aus dem Store ließen sich leider noch nicht ausprobieren, der Store ist derzeit aus *.de vom iPad aus schlicht nicht zu erreichen, um einen Proxy einzurichten fehlte leider die Zeit… Aber die nativen Apps von Apple sind super. Kalender, Notizen, Maps. Alles profitiert von der Größe und der fantastischen Bedienung per Fingerstreich.

Das surfen per Mobile Safari gelang großartig. Die vom iPhone bekannte Zoomerei ist auf dem iPad schlicht nicht nötig. Es macht richtig großen Spaß!

An der Tastatur scheinen sich die Geister allerdings zu scheiden. Ich konnte im Querformat richtig super tippen, Kathi ist damit gar nicht so toll klar gekommen. YMMV.

Jetzt bin ich ja mal auf den Veröffentlichungszeitpunkt und die Preise für den Rest der Welt gespannt. Und dann muss ich mal sehen, ob ich die erste Generation auslassen werde. Leicht wird das vermutlich nicht…

Seit ich meine neue Telefonnummer und damit ein iPhone 3GS habe, benutzt Kathi das belgische iPhone 3G. Anfang Oktober machte dieses iPhone dann leider Bekanntschaft mit einem gefliesten Fußboden.

Das Glas brach in der oberen rechten Ecke des Displays und man hatte einen schönen Blick auf die Innereien des Telefons. Alle Funktionen waren noch zu benutzen, aber das gesplitterte Glas verlor leider trotz erster Bandage mit Frischhaltefolie immer mal wieder einen Splitter. Nicht gut.

Eine Reparatur musste her. Nach eingehender Beratung mit einem feinmechanisch begabtem Arbeitskollegen und einem ausführlichen Check der notwendigen Arbeitsschritte bei iFixit fiel die Entscheidung, das selber zu bewerkstelligen.

Ich bestellte Ersatzteile und Werkzeuge bei Portatronics in Bonn. Im Einzelnen waren das:

• Ein neues Glas mit Touchscreen für 59,00 €
• Passende Klebestreifen für 4,90 €
• Ein Werkzeugset mit Saugnapf, 0er Phillips Schraubendreher, einem Antistatik-Armband und einem Plastikspatel für 25,89 €

Dazu kamen dann noch mal 5,90 € Versandkosten was einen Gesamtpreis von 95,69 € ergibt. Gegenüber der ebenfalls von Portatronics angebotenen Reparatur inklusive aller Teile¹ für 148,00 € immer noch was gespart.

Die Teile kam dann auch an und ich machte mich eines schönen Abends an die Reparatur.

Vorab: Es ist äusserst hilfreich wenn man sich vor so einem Unterfangen in einem Zustand des in-sich-selbst-ruhens befindet. Ausserdem sollte man über eine gute Lichtquelle verfügen, mehrere kleine Behälter² für die Aufbewahrung der Schrauben bereit halten und Getränke bereit stellen.

Die Anleitung bei iFixit ist wirklich sehr gut. Daher hier nur einige Hinweise von den Sachen die mir so aufgefallen sind:
