Mein Debian auf der NSLU2 Post ist nach wie vor einer der populärsten in meinem kleinen, bescheidenen Blog. Meine eigene liegt zwar derzeit mangels Einsatzzweck (Hey, ich hab nen Cube…) und aktueller Inkompatibilität mit dem Debian 4.0r1 Installer in der Schublade, aber ich werde die mit Sicherheit noch mal einsetzen wenn mir eine tolle Verwendung einfällt und ich Zeit habe.

Und das trotz dem designierten Nachfolger namens Linksys NAS200.

Die Features lesen sich zwar ganz nett, (2 x USB 2.0 extern, 2 x SATA intern, Linux basiert) aber die Performance scheint im Vergleich zur NSLU2 sogar noch schlechter zu sein…

Laut dem NAS200 Review bei linuxdevices.com macht der Prozessor 44 BogoMIPS, und das ist ja wohl schlicht ein Witz, da kann so ein RAID-Sync (gemessen von smallnetbuilder.com) schon mal gerne 8 Stunden dauern.

Eine Standard NSLU2 bringt ja schon 133 (und nach dem Übertakten liegt meine gar bei 266.24…) und ist damit immer noch nicht in der Lage einen 100 MBit Netzwerkanschluss zu sättigen. Unter dem Gesichtspunkt wird einem auch klar, warum Linksys/Cisco den Gigabit-Adapter eingespart hat.

Auch die NAS200-Seite im nslu2-linux Wiki ist noch sehr dürftig und niemand weiss wie lange es dauern wird bis ein Custom-Linux auf dem Teil zum laufen zu bewegen ist… Dazu kommt dann auch noch, dass die NAS200 einen Lüfter mitbringt den die NSLU2 und der Cube (Konvektionsschacht anyone?) bei besserer Performance schlicht nicht nötig haben.

Das einzige was die NAS200 in meinen Augen ansatzweise interessant macht, ist der niedrige Preis (ca. 120 €) und der Ausblick auf eine verbesserte Revision 2.0.

Vielleicht klappts dann auch mit der NSLU2 Nachfolge…
