<p>Seit guten zwei Wochen rennt jetzt das aktuelle Mac OS X 10.6 auf meinen MacBook. Das Update lief v&#246;llig problemlos, ausser an den Stellen wo es Probleme gab.</p>

<p>Ich liste hier zun&#228;chst meine Probleme auf und komme dann zu den positiven Aspekten der neuen Katze aus dem Hause Apple.</p>

<p><strong>TimeMachine</strong></p>

<p>Das erste Backup nach dem Upgrade dauerte erst unfassbar lange<sup>1</sup>, funktionierte dann problemlos und nach zwei Tagen starb das SparseBundle einen traurigen Tod und war nicht mehr mountbar. Tsch&#252;ss dann liebe Daten!</p>

<p>Meine Backupmethode<sup>2</sup> des MacBooks wird zwar von Apple nicht offiziell unterst&#252;tzt, aber einen Totalausfall h&#228;tte ich dann doch nicht erwartet.</p>

<p>Nach einem kompletten Neuanfang l&#228;uft aber nun alles wieder sehr gut. Der Unterschied scheint zu sein, dass vorher noch die MAC-Adresse im Namen des SparseBundles auftauchte, wo unter 10.6 lediglich der Hostname steht. Dieses Bundle musste ich auch gar nicht mehr selber anlegen, das hat der Snow Leopard selbst getan.</p>

<p><strong>MySQL</strong></p>

<p>Auf meinem MacBook l&#228;uft f&#252;r lokale Entwicklung und Tests ein MySQL-Server. Der funktionierte nicht und das bequeme Starten und Stoppen &#252;ber eine PreferencePane in den Systemeinstellungen forderte erst einen Start derselben in 32-Bit um danach in den digitalen Orkus zu verschwinden.</p>

<p>Nachdem ich mir die 10.5er <code>x86_64</code> Version von MySQL <a href="http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.1.html#macosx-dmg">heruntergeladen</a> hatte konnte ich MySQL, das Startup-Item und die PrefPane neu installieren und seitdem klappt alles wieder.</p>

<p><strong>MacPorts</strong></p>

<p>Die <a href="http://www.macports.org/">MacPorts</a> hatten ebenso wie MySQL ziemliche Probleme mit der 64-Bit Architektur. Die einfache L&#246;sung via</p>

<p><code class=prettyprint>
$ sudo port selfupdate
$ sudo port sync
$ sudo port upgrade --force installed
</code></p>

<p>wollte bei mir <em>nat&#252;rlich</em> nicht funktionieren. Erst zickte <a href="http://trac.macports.org/ticket/20953">getttext</a>, dann bestand <a href="https://trac.macports.org/ticket/20284">Python</a> darauf, unbedingt eine <code>python.exe</code> kompilieren zu wollen. &#220;ber eine recht harte <a href="http://trac.macports.org/wiki/Migration">Migration</a> klappte dann aber doch alles:</p>

<ul>

    <li>Neue MacPorts Version 1.8.0 installieren.</li>
    <li>Liste der installierten Ports erstellen:
<code class="prettyprint">port installed > myports.txt</code></li>
    <li>Den ganzen Glibber von vorher aufr&#228;umen und alle Ports deinstallieren:
<code class="prettyprint">sudo port clean installed
sudo port -f uninstall installed</code></li>
    <li>Alle Ports wieder neu installieren:
<code class="prettyprint">for i in `cat myports.txt | cut -d "@" -f 1`; do sudo port install $i; done</code></li>
</ul>

<p>Danach<sup>3</sup> habe ich noch eine neue Liste der installierten Ports erstellt und gegen die alte gedifft. Soweit ich das sehen kann ist alles wieder da, nur teilweise in frischeren Versionen.</p>

<p><strong>GPG-Mail</strong></p>

<p>Das <a href="http://www.sente.ch/software/GPGMail/English.lproj/GPGMail.html">GPGMail Plugin</a> funktioniert nicht unter 10.6. Und es <a href="http://sourceforge.net/projects/sfnews/forums/forum/999042">schaut so aus</a>, als h&#228;tte der einzige Entwickler keine Zeit f&#252;r ein Update. Das ist sehr bl&#246;d. Ich stehe jetzt vor der Entscheidung entweder</p>

    <li>Auf verschl&#252;sselte Mails zu verzichten</li>
    <li>Jeweils von Hand &#252;ber die Shell zu ver- und entschl&#252;sseln</li>
    <li>Einen anderen MUA wie <a href="http://www.mozilla-europe.org/de/products/thunderbird/">Thunderbird</a> oder <a href="http://www.mutt.org/">Mutt</a> zu nutzen</li>
</ul>

<p>Alles nicht so sch&#246;n, mal sehen wie ich das machen werde&#8230;</p>

<p><strong>LaTeX und TextMate</strong></p>

<p>Mein liebster Editor <a href="http://macromates.com/">TextMate</a> wollte keine LaTeX-Dokumente mehr kompilieren. Das hat mich ob der anstehenden Diplomarbeit zun&#228;chst sehr entsetzt, war dann aber mit einem Update aller TextMate Bundles schnell erledigt. Hintergrund des Fehlers ist wohl das Update von Ruby auf 1.8.7.</p>

<p><strong>Tolle neue Sachen</strong></p>

<p>So, das war es dann mit der Meckerei. Alles andere klappte super. Ich glaube auch nicht, dass <em>normale</em> Anwender solche Probleme haben sollten und sie waren ja auch alle, mit der wirklich bitteren Ausnahme des GPGMail Plugins, l&#246;sbar.</p>

<p>Das Programm, das am neuesten<sup>4</sup> ausschaut, QuickTime X, kann jetzt auch Videos von iSights aufnehmen und z.B. Kapitel in MP4 Videos anzeigen.</p>

<p>In den Systemeinstellungen wird mir angezeigt, dass es eigentlich an der Zeit f&#252;r einen neuen Akku w&#228;re&#8230;</p>

<p>Und solche Kleinigkeiten findet man &#252;berall im System.</p>

<p>Dazu f&#252;hlt sich mein MacBook seit dem Update auf 10.6 auch schneller an. Vor allem dem Finder merkt man die Optimierungsarbeiten an. Egal ob man lokal arbeitet und sich die Vorschaubilder schneller aufbauen als vorher, oder man Dateien &#252;ber das Netzwerk kopiert. Alles ein bisschen schneller, alles ein wenig h&#252;bscher.</p>

<p>Nach der Installation konnte ich mich ausserdem &#252;ber knapp 30 GB mehr Platz auf der Festplatte freuen. Das ist schon sehr beachtlich und gerade auf einem Laptop mit eher kleiner Festplatte<sup>5</sup> hoch willkommen.</p>

<p>Alles in allem bin ich sehr zufrieden mit dem Update. Das Preis-Leistungs Verh&#228;ltnis ist bei 29,00 € wirklich gut und ich bin gespannt was ich noch an Neuerungen finden werde.</p>

<p>Nachdem ich jetzt hier in meiner Textbox auf &#8220;Publish&#8221; geklickt habe, werde ich das System frohen Mutes auf 10.6.1 updaten, <em>see you on the other side</em>&#8230;</p>
